PHC Audiologist: Stefanie Abdayem, Au.D.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Wichita, Kansas.
Where did you go to school?
I went to Bishop Carroll Catholic high school in Wichita. Then I went to Newman University in Wichita for one year during undergrad. Finally, I transferred to Wichita State University and stayed there to get my undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I continued on to graduate school at Wichita State University for my Doctorate of Audiology degree. Why did you want to become an audiologist?
I wanted to work in healthcare and help improve quality of life for patients and families. During undergrad I wanted to be a speech pathologist, then changed my mind when I had my first course in Audiology. My teacher would draw a picture of the ear on the white board at the beginning of every class and added on to it each day. One of those days I decided this is it. I found Audiology to be a rewarding career, and I love helping people understand their hearing loss and how to treat it. What is your favorite area of audiology?
I love counseling patients and getting to know their stories and being a part of their journey to better hearing. I enjoy watching patients gain confidence in their abilities to communicate with their loved ones effectively and with ease. Communication is key! At what office(s) do you work?
