PHC Audiologist: Aly Lerman, Au.D.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Naperville, Illinois, a large Chicago suburb.
Where did you go to school?
I am a Midwest girl through and through. I grew up in the Chicagoland area and went to Naperville Central High School. For undergrad, I became a Cornhusker at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Go Big Red! Following my time in Lincoln, I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to complete my graduate training at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. I headed down to Kansas City to complete my residency and ended up staying!
Why did you want to become an audiologist?
Chronic ear infections as a child led to a few sets of tubes and more than a few doctors appointments. I wanted to help people and care for others in the way that my audiologists were able to care for me.
What is your favorite area of audiology?
I enjoy amplification and cochlear implants because both of these areas give me the chance to meet people, learn about them, and build rapport. There is something special about the bond between clinician and patient after spending many hours together. The work we do can be life changing and giving people the ability to communicate with their loved ones again is such a nice feeling. At what office(s) do you work?
Broadway (Kansas City, MO) and Lakewood (Lee’s Summit, MO) Now some fun questions! What’s your favorite television show?
Anything on Food Network. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and Chopped are some of the best shows out there! If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?
80’s style hair. My crazy, curly hair would fit right in!
If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
In the backyard of my childhood home, swinging on the hammock, reading a good book.
