What is the Lyric?
The Lyric is a hearing aid manufactured by the company Phonak. The Lyric is the world’s only 100% invisible hearing aid. The Lyric is an extended-wear device meaning it sits in the ear 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Lyric can be worn while showering and swimming.
How long does the Lyric last?
Lyric devices use special technology for moisture protection and long-lasting battery life so that they can be worn for weeks to months. It’s recommended that the Lyrics be replaced every 6-8 weeks to maintain the clear, natural sound quality. Lyrics can be taken out of the ear by the wearer. However, new Lyric devices will need to be replaced by a trained audiologist.

Will I be able to feel the Lyric in my ear?
At first, you might be able to feel the Lyric, but it will not hurt and should not be uncomfortable. Like all hearing aids, Lyric requires an adjustment period. For most people, Lyric becomes comfortable within a few days. Others may take up to two weeks to adjust to Lyric. Lyric is made from a soft biocompatible material designed to contour to the ear canal and ensure natural ventilation and stable, comfortable placement.
Does Lyric require a medical procedure?
No. Lyric is a hearing aid that is placed in the ear canal and programmed by a Certified Lyric Provider in their office. The initial sizing and fitting process for Lyric takes about one hour.
Can I remove Lyric on my own?
Yes, if necessary. Once you’ve been fitted with Lyric, your provider will give you a tool called the SoundLync that can be used to take the device out or adjust the volume. However, Lyric is not designed to be reinserted once removed. You will have to go back to your provider for a replacement.
Can I use headsets or earphones with Lyric?
Yes, one of the benefits of Lyric is that you can continue to use external headphones and external hearing protection. Check with your provider if you are not sure. Another benefit of Lyric is that it can be worn while talking on a mobile or fixed-line phone. In fact, Lyric can be worn during most daily activities, including sleeping, showering, exercising, and using headphones.
So I can swim with Lyric?
Lyric is water resistant, not waterproof. Therefore, underwater swimming and diving are not recommended. However, Lyric can be worn in the shower or during water activities in which the head is not fully submerged under water. Speak to your provider about protecting your devices during water activities as swim molds can be worn with Lyric. Lyric can also be worn while flying and will not set off any metal detectors. However, Lyric must be removed before you have an MRI but is fine to wear during an X-ray or CT scan. However, in all cases we recommend that you inform the physician and/or technician about the Lyric device. Your Lyric provider will replace your devices.
How do I know if Lyric is for me?
Lyric is designed to fit mild to moderately-severe hearing loss. Lyric is not appropriate for all patients. It’s important to see a Lyric provider to determine if Lyric is right for you.
