Audiologists, Otolaryngologists & Otologists

By Danielle Barton, Au.D., CH-TM, CCC/A, FAAA

When you come to any of our offices, you may in fact encounter a few different types of professionals depending on the type of appointment or evaluation you are having that day. When you arrive at your appointment for check-in, you will be greeted by one of our Patient Care Coordinators who will help you navigate your appointment(s) from check-in to check-out. Some of the providers you may encounter are:

Audiologist

An Audiologist is a licensed health care professional who diagnoses hearing loss and vestibular system conditions of the ear. After a review of your health history and a hearing evaluation, they determine if your condition may be medically treatable. If not, they will make a recommendation for treatment including the use of hearing aids, assistive listening devices, balance therapy and/or aural rehabilitation.

Otorhinolaryngologist

Otorhinolaryngologists (sometimes shortened to otolaryngologists or “ENTs”) are the medical specialty that assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages diseases and health issues involving the ears, nose, and throat. These specialized physicians can also address issues in the head, neck, mouth, sinuses, and voice box (larynx).

Otologist / Neurotologist

An otologist/neurotologist is a board-certified otolaryngologist who provides medical and surgical care of patients, both adult and pediatric, with diseases that affect the ears, balance system, temporal bone, skull base, and related structures of the head and neck.

Depending on the type of appointment you need, as well as the symptoms you are experiencing, when you call our office one of our Patient Care Coordinators will assist you in setting up an appointment with the appropriate professional. Much of the time, these providers are working together collectively to create a comprehensive care plan for you as the patient and ensure that you are well taken care of. We pride ourselves on patient centered care and look forward to helping care for you in the future.
