The holidays are an exciting time to spend with friends and family. If you have hearing loss, it can be very difficult to follow conversations with those around you. Here at Professional Hearing Center, we are committed to keeping you involved with the people you love and activities you enjoy.
Before heading into the holiday season, make sure you clean your hearing aids regularly or stop by and see your audiologist to have your ears cleaned and hearing aids checked. The first step towards hearing optimally is ensuring your hearing aids are functioning properly.
The second step is to plan. Pick a spot at the dinner table with the “kids” table behind you. When you put the noise to your back, the directional microphones on your hearing aids are able to reduce as much noise as possible.
In addition to putting your back to the noise, do not be afraid to tell your family members to get your attention before speaking to you. When a speaker has your attention and eye contact, your brain can benefit by having visual cues to piece speech together.
Lastly, check with your audiologist to find out if your hearing aids are Bluetooth compatible. You may have access to an app on your smartphone that allows you to make changes to how your hearing aids sound at the touch of a button. If you do not have Bluetooth connectivity, talk with your audiologist about how a hearing aid accessory can best help you and your hearing goals!
Happy Holidays from the team at Professional Hearing Center!
